چکیده

Whereas the degradation of monoand dichlorinated anilines has been studied, very little is known about fluorinated anilines. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate, under aerobic conditions, the degradation of 2-, 3and 4-fluoroaniline by a previously isolated pure bacterium, designated as strain F11. This microorganism, identified as Labrys portucalensis, was isolated from a contaminated site in northern Portugal and has the unique capacity to utilize fluorobenzene as a sole carbon and energy source,. The results of the biodegradation of 2-, 3and 4-fluoroaniline by strain F11 showed that this microorganism is able to completely degrade 2fluoroaniline and partially degrade 4fluoroaniline, when these compounds are present as a sole carbon and energy source. Biodegradation of these two compounds also occurred, although at a lower rate, in the absence of an external nitrogen source in the culture medium.

Labrys portucalensis sp. nov., a fluorobenzene-degrading bacterium isolated from an industrially contaminated sediment in northern Portugal.

A detailed classification of a novel bacterial strain, designated F11(T), capable of degrading fluorobenzene as a sole carbon and energy source, was performed by using a polyphasic approach. This Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile, non-spore-forming, aerobic bacterium was isolated from a sediment sample collected from an industrially contaminated site in northern Portugal. The predominant wh...

Phylogenetic relationships of the genera Stella, Labrys and Angulomicrobium within the 'Alphaproteobacteria' and description of Angulomicrobium amanitiforme sp. nov.

The unusually shaped bacteria of the genera Stella, Labrys and Angulomicrobium have been described based on their cell morphology and biochemistry. However, their phylogenetic relationships remain unresolved. An earlier study that was based on 5S rRNA gene sequences placed the genus Stella within the 'Alphaproteobacteria'. In the present report, polar lipids and 16S rRNA genes of the type strai...

Complete Genome Sequence of the Halophilic Methylotrophic Methanogen Archaeon Methanohalophilus portucalensis Strain FDF-1T

We report here the complete genome sequence (2.08 Mb) of Methanohalophilus portucalensis strain FDF-1T, a halophilic methylotrophic methanogen isolated from the sediment of a saltern in Figeria da Foz, Portugal. The average nucleotide identity and DNA-DNA hybridization analyses show that Methanohalophilus mahii, M. halophilus, and M. portucalensis are three different species within the Methanos...

Draft Genome Sequence of Multidrug-Resistant Strain Citrobacter portucalensis MBTC-1222, Isolated from Uziza (Piper guineense) Leaves in Nigeria

In this work, we report the draft whole-genome sequence of the multiply antibiotic-resistant Citrobacter portucalensis strain MBTC-1222 isolated from the uziza leafy vegetable in Nigeria. Sequence analysis showed the assembled genome size to be 4,881,935 bp, containing 4,603 protein-coding genes, 131 pseudogenes, 7 rRNAs, 74 tRNAs, and 9 noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs).

PRODUCTION OF OXYTETRACYCLINE BY ISOLATED WILD TYPE IRANIAN STREPTOMYCES RIMOSUS

Production of oxytetracycline by an isolated strain of Streptomyces rimosus from Iranian soil was investigated using a special fermentation medium. A comparative study was performed with standard strain PTCC 1144 using the following parameters optimum growth conditions with respect to time, pH, and different amounts of corn steep liquor. Surprisingly, the production yield of the wild strai...
